Evaluation question 5
How did you attract your audience?
In our two minute film scene, we tried to attract our audience with many different types of conventions and stereotypes, some of these are:
Gender
- Connection between the protagonist to the audience.
- Emphasis on stereotypes of males.
- Close ups of the antagonist.
We used these so that we could connect the audience to the film opening and it would create a stronger bond of appeal to the audience. We also felt that due to the stereotypes of girls being the victims, we would use males to change the typical convention.
Sound
We used a pitch change of our thriller scene to emphasise the 'horror' in conjunction to the 'normal' scenes to create more effect. This helped with the movement of our scene as it made it more linked to the audience so that it creates more of an effect and an attraction.
Our scene involves two boys who are friends walking in the woods and then another boy who is seen as the antagonist. The reason that they are two boys and not two girls as the victim is so that we change the gender stereotype and males feel more involved within the horror and want to watch it more.
Evaluation question 4
Who would be the audience for your media product and why.
When looking into our themes and genre conventions we came across many ideas of which we wanted to use in our pre-lim and our official. We also looked into the different themes so that we could appeal to different age groups. We felt that thrillers appeal to many different ages, but mostly young adults and teens.
One of the reasons that we chose to appeal to young adults and teens is because that is also the age range of the actors, as they are 16/17 years old themselves. The element of thriller is used well in our scene as we had a protagonist and an antagonist, this was important for us so that we could use them against eachother and somehow create binary opposites.
After finding out what age group we wanted to appeal, we then had to research what their ideas were and how we would make our scene interesting to them. We did this with 3 different questionnaires and it gave us a big insight into what we should and what we should not include. As the age group we were appealing to were the same age group as us, we also took that into consideration as to what WE liked as well.
Our secondary audience are older adults, as older people also like to watch thrillers and we feel like our story line could appeal to all. However we feel like our target audience is perfect for us as we could also link other parts of what we researched to the scene.
Finally, i feel as though we have created our our thriller perfectly in the way of target audience, secondary audience and in conjunction of narrative theory.

Chloe

Josh
I’d never do this, why would I do this, believe me guys, you know me
Jack
Oh I’ve had enough
(Jack punches josh)
Stage direction – camera switches to perspective of figure watching the scene smiling
(muffled from distance)
Chloe
(Shaking with fear)
I’ll call the police, watch the bodies
(Figure walks away from the scene)
(Shot fades to black to signify end of scene)
Has been removed from our opening , we have done this as the current filming of our opening was already around 1:45 , so we couldn't afford to have another whole scene. we also had feedback saying that we had too much dialog in our opening , and seeing as the last scene was mainly dialog we decided to remove it. in its place we will keep the very end of the scene and try and fit it into the end of the current scene.

Character change.
Character change of names - 'Natalie' to Jamal'.
The reason that we have decided to change this is due to the fact that we could not find anyone suitable for the role of Natalie, so therefore we have decided to use another male as well as Josh. The reason for this is that we think it will contrast the friendship between the boys and will show a good use of emotion as it will be easier to show through a real life form of friendship, not put on for thr camera.

story development.
Story Development.
Our ideas for our 2 minute scene has varied immensely throughout the past few months, as we originally had many ideas but was not able to put them together so that they flowed well with each other, so therefore we have now chosen a suitable type of genre and idea for our scene. The idea is a group of friends in a forest and then something mysterious happens. We thought this would be a good idea, as the group of friends are roughly our age, so that brings the target audience in to many different types of ages, and people can also relate.
The story development has influenced more ideas to come across as while we are thinking of what our ideas to be, we are always coming up with new and improved ideas to make our scene look more professional.

Focus group questions.
These are our focus group questions we will ask people (minimum) to get an idea of what should be included in our film opening and what our target audience would prefer to see and what they dislike about thriller trailers etc, so that our overall final opening piece is up to their standards and creates satisfaction. From this we will create a focus group feedback.
1. what things do you expect to see when you watch a thriller trailer?
2. What about thriller openings specifically?
3. What are your opinions on thriller films? And if you dislike them why is that?
4. What do you consider to be an average thriller story-line?
5. What should a thriller film include in order to be classed as a thriller film?
6. Is there anything particular you like or dislike about thriller films?
7. If there were a film coming out about a group of friends who are in the woods searching for the rest of the group whilst undergoing life threatening situations would you watch it?
8. Is there a film that you saw recently because you enjoyed the trailer? What film was it and what was it about the trailer that made you want to watch the film?
9. If you could change anything about an average film trailer, what would it be?
